Wayne Clark Explores Petition for Nonpartisan Broward Sheriff

Wayne Clark exploring the possibilities of a nonpartisan election for Broward County Sheriff citing “SafetyIsNonpartisan.”

November 20, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Broward County partisan politics has no bearing on the safety and security of our community. Regardless of party affiliation, the Broward Sheriff’s number one priority should be the safety of family, friends and communities.    Recent events have shown this is no longer the case.

As a candidate for Broward County Sheriff in 2020, I believe the elected Office of Sheriff should have no party affiliation.  Broward citizens have voiced their desire to explore options removing politics from the position. As such, Broward County voters should determine if the Sheriff’s election should be nonpartisan.

In the coming weeks, I will continue meeting with those citizens and officials seeking to explore a petition to make the Sheriff’s position nonpartisan and to add this referendum to the ballot to let Broward County voters decide.

As we progress, this referendum campaign will face heavy opposition by those wanting to insert politics at the expense of public safety.

The effort will need the good sense and individual support of over 85,000 Broward voters by petition to amend our Charter to remove partisan politics from the Broward Sheriff’s election.

I urge every Broward County voter to join in this mutual decision process by supporting the petition to voice their own personal judgement through ballot referendum making the Broward Sheriff’s office nonpartisan.
